Meet the Team

After qualifying the Class 1 (Steam and Motor) Certificate of Competency, Alistair spent well over 3 decades in the field of learning and development. He headed mechanical and marine engineering departments in the NZ tertiary training sector.

He is a Maritime New Zealand Examiner for all grades of Engineering Certificates of Competency.


Jim is probably one of the few Extra-Master Mariners active in the field of maritime education today. His experience across both hemispheres spans well over 4 decades.

His students range from Launchmasters, Yachtmasters, Cadets to Masters (F.G.) and licenced Compass Adjusters. He is a published author and a well-recognised expert on ship stability.

After sailing as a Chief Engineer, Stan came ashore and achieved four scholarly Masters disciplines in Structural, Building Construction, Mechanical and Marine Science Engineering. A Charted Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia and a registered Marine Surveyor, he is also a Fellow with the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) and Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST), U.K. He taught marine engineers in NZ and Australia. 

In 2020, Stan received the IMarEST President’s award for the highest achievement for services and contribution in the engineering field. 



As a professional Skipper (Restricted Limits), Naomi is the first woman marine engineer in NZ. Her experience as a trail-blazer, spans a variety of maritime assets including ferries, cruise ships, dredgers, offshore support vessels and tugs. As a mentor to many younger mariners, she is well regarded for her skills as an On-the-Job Trainer.



With nearly two decades of experience in the Knowledge Transfer domain, Suki’s perspective is influenced by his earlier roles as a Chief Engineer, Ship-manager and business innovator.

He is an Engineering Examiner for Maritime New Zealand, covering all levels of Competency.
